Professional Series PS77401 Stainless-Steel 2-Slice Toaster Review

Professional Series PS77401 Stainless-Steel 2-Slice ToasterNot a bad toaster, just not a particularly good one either.Bought it to replace a vintage toaster from the 50s and that toaster could toast perfectly. This one toasts more on the outside sides of the bread than the sides facing the center. Also, there is little leeway in settings between toasted nicely and burnt.Looks good though.

Toastmaster 328BC 6-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler with Bagel Switch Review

Toastmaster 328BC 6-Slice Toaster Oven/Broiler with Bagel SwitchAfter over a decade of trustworthy service my Black and Decker finally gave up the ghost. With a lot of research I selected this as its replacement. I have not been disappointed. Things I love about this toaster oven:
-2 racks! I can bake off a tray of salad croutons and another of almonds at the same time. Or cook breakfast sausages and finish a frittata - at the same time.Or keep two plates of dinner warm - at the same time! This has been really handy for all kinds of things when I'm in a hurry and don't want to be juggling (small) hot pans.
-The timer. No need to worry about burning the pine nuts again. Just set the timer and the oven turns off when the time runs out. Easy.
-Great size for my fairly small kitchen. An 8" sauté pan fits inside with the oven door only open a little for the handle to stick out. This is great for finishing dishes under the broiler. Similarly, to heat or hold food, dinner plates fit in without a problem. Considering this, it takes up much less countertop than many other models with similar interior space. (I haven't tried 6 slices of toast, but 4 is no problem).
-It looks and feels pretty good. I went to several stores to look at the design and check out the feel of as many items as possible before purchasing. This is actually how I found the Toastmaster. Initially it wasn't even on my list, short or otherwise. The Toastmaster holds it's own against any toaster in the price range, and I even preferred it over the DiLonghi. Its lines are simple and understated, the knobs feel sturdy, not like they'll fall off in a month, and the door opens and closes nicely.
Things I don't love:
-Maybe a little complicated to use, but if you can drive a car you can certainly work this toaster before your morning coffee has kicked in. The section on how to toast bread actually took almost two pages in the instruction manual! However, all that text translates to a few basic steps, and I'm making toast just fine, except for my next point...
-Uneven broiling. Portions at the back of the unit definitely get darker than those at the front. This means you might want to rotate things halfway through, but for me neither unevenness nor rotating is really a big deal, so this doesn't bother me too much. The trade in capacity and overall product quality is worth it.

Chefmate 4-slice Toaster Oven Review

Chefmate 4-slice Toaster OvenPROS:
Easy to use
Small and compact

CONS:
Rack design makes it difficult to remove bread without the boiling hot rack sliding out with it
Toasts very unpredictably - normally burns 1/2 of the top piece of toast, while leaving the bottom one untouched

Shell out an extra $10 and get a decent toaster oven.

Black & Decker TRO360 Toast-R-OvenThe door to this toaster is connected with two wires that cut power off if you open the door to the toaster.Problem is the door won't remained closed because of the (...) way the wires are connected. One of the wires is slowly scraping a gouge out of the corner of the glass door.I am going to take a baseball bat to this as soon as I find time to buy a new toaster.

Black & Decker FC350 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven with Rotisserie Review

Black & Decker FC350 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven with RotisserieThis oven only does slightly better than a typical rotisserie or toaster type oven. If you are broiling a steak, unless you like your meat well done, you should start with frozen meat in order to get a browned surface with a pink center. The recipe book that comes with it only has a few examples and the pre-programed selections do not accomplish a proper product without adjustments to the time. It has a setting for rising crust pizza (like DiJourno) which starts with 14 minutes. A regular oven is 22 to 25 minutes. At 14 minutes, the pizza had risen but the crust was still very soft and the cheese was not even browned at all. I added time, and ended up at over 20 minutes with a pizza that was too soft and floppy. The same with frozen french fries. I expected a web site that would give more direction in how to use the oven but all the B & D web site has is the recipe book in pdf form.

As far as the rotisserie, the oven is not really big enough to even accomodate a medium sized chicken. I did do a small pork roast which came out nicely done. But it had to be a small roast to not touch the element guards. For the price, I was rather disappointed.

Product Description:
Unlike conventional or convection ovens, this state-of-the-art countertop oven uses infrared-light technology to evenly cook the inside and outside of foods simultaneously. Superior browning and crisping capabilities seal in flavor, whether cooking meat, poultry, or fish, and toast comes out perfect every time. The appliance cooks up to 50-percent faster than a conventional oven, with no pre-heating or thawing necessary, making it possible to pull dinner out of the freezer and have it fully cooked and ready to serve in no time. In fact, many dishes can be cooked in 20 minutes or less. There's also no need to worry about what temperature to cook at since the intelligent profiling system cycles the cooking lights according to the type of food being cooked. The oven provides a control panel with an LCD screen and 65 digital pre-settings for one-touch ease of use. For example, select from functions including pizza, quick foods, cookies, toast, reheat, bake/roast, or broil, and the digital display allows for scrolling through a variety of detailed choices. It also comes with a rotisserie spit and setting for rotisserie cooking poultry. Best of all, the units convert menu lets you enter the temperature and time for a favorite recipe, then automatically converts it to InfraWave time. Accessories include a dishwasher-safe broil rack and bake pan, a removable crumb tray, a handle to pull the trays out, and an instruction manual. The 1500-watt countertop oven with rotisserie measures approximately 14 by 13-3/4 by 10 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Hamilton Beach 2-Slice Toaster Review

Hamilton Beach 2-Slice ToasterThis toaster does everything we want and looks very nice. The toast comes out evenly on both sides. After the cycle is done, the bread is a little recessed in the slots keeping it nice and warm until you use the lever to raise it up.The crumb tray pulls all the way out for easy cleaning. Bagel and frozen settings work great, too. Toaster is used every day by 3 heavy bread consumers and everyone likes it.Brushed stainless looks great and doesn't show fingerprints. Note: the outside surface does get warm.

Dualit 4-Slice Toaster, Canary Yellow Review

Dualit 4-Slice Toaster, Canary YellowAfter much research and thinking, I finally purchased this toaster, believing it would be the best and last toaster I would ever have to buy.It is truly the best toaster I've ever had, and I've had them all! There are some slight drawbacks that I must mention, however:
The two slots on the left sometimes toast more lightly than the right-hand slots, and the toasting can be uneven from top to bottom in all the slots. This toaster takes longer than other brands to do its job, requiring a little "warm-up" time after it has cooled a bit. Also, the slots are not quite wide enough for some breads, such as half-sliced bagels. I honestly don't see how two slices of bread could fit into the optional sandwich basket that is designed to slide into a slot on this toaster.

There are some great features, too:The crumb tray actually catches all the crumbs and is easy to slide out to empty. The toast does not pop up, as in other brands, thereby staying warm for a few minutes until I can get to it.It has a simple numbered dial--the numbers correspond to minutes--and during the toasting time, the toaster ticks--like an old-fashioned kitchen timer. There is no "ready" sound, such as a ding, but the ticking stops with a loud click when the time is up. Also, there is never a time when this toaster is too hot to toast another batch of bread. In fact, it works better when it is still hot.

The design is attractive and would look nice left out on the counter.I keep mine in a cupboard, however, and it is no trouble to get it out every morning and put it back after breakfast.(This is how I've always stored my toasters.)I purchased the yellow, 4-slice model, and it is very pretty. The yellow looks good with my wood cabinets and goes well with everything in my kitchen.

I believe this toaster will never, ever wear out.It is heavy, well-built, and well-designed, inside and out. And, it does toast better than all the other toasters I have owned in the past.

Black & Decker TRO210 Toast-R-Oven, White Review

Black & Decker TRO210 Toast-R-Oven, WhiteMy wife and I put a white Toast-R-Oven from Black & Decker on our wedding registry, thinking it'd make a solid addition to our kitchen.Within the 1-yr warranty, our toaster oven stopped working. The button for making toast had ceased to depress and hold, requiring us to manually push down the button if we wanted to make toast.B&D had us snip the electrical cord and mail it back to them (I suppose to make sure we weren't just asking for another unit while keeping our current one).

We received the replacement a few weeks later, but this one also broke.Unfortunately for us, the 1-yr warranty had just expired. This time, the problem was the heating element on the roof of the unit. One of the elements (a rod-like tube that goes lengthwise along the toaster) started giving off sparks and then collapsed.Instead of staying pressed against the top of the unit, one of the rods had partially fallen down, bending at an angle. You might think this was a case of user-error, perhaps by the owner accidentally ramming too big a chunk of food into the toaster and cracking the heating element... but I am positive that neither one of us touched the topside heating element.(We typically used it to toast Eggos and bread, and used the pan to warm up leftover pizza, taco shells, cookies.)

The oven no longer works since the topside no longer generates heat. The bottom still gets hot, but a funny smell permeates when the oven is activated, probably because of the broken heating element on top.

Overall, this device is of such poor quality that I would not pay a single cent for another. This is the WORST item on our registry -- a piece of junk that causes headaches and frustration.I will NEVER buy another toaster oven from Black & Decker, and I am afraid to try any of their other kitchenware.I just can't trust their workmanship or design.

Maxi-Matic ET-5W Elite Cuisine 2-Slice Toaster with Variable Temperature Control, White Review

Maxi-Matic ET-5W Elite Cuisine 2-Slice Toaster with Variable Temperature Control, WhiteWell, It works (most of the time). But the quality is so so. Sometimes the latch cannot lock into the place. I have to "shake" it a couple of times to make it work. I also notice the possible overcooking problem mentioned in another review when you toast multiple bagels in a short duration. So I turn down the temperature gradually.

KitchenAid KMTT200 Toaster, 2 Slice Review

KitchenAid KMTT200 Toaster, 2 SliceI have the all steel version.
Pros: Very solid construction. Although is quite large, it is good looking and gives you the feeling of something that will last a long time. Very even toasting, works great, and the outside stays totally cool. After several cycles it does eventually get warm, but not hot.
I like it a lot, except for one thing:
Negative: The slots are just a little too short. It fits only the regular Mrs Baird's type of bread loaf.
If you try to toast any other type of shorterand wider bread, it will not fit in the slots as they are about 1/2 inch shorter than the slice of bread. If you look at it, it is obvious that there was enough room to extend the slots at least another inch in front. The design team at KitchenAid must be eating one type of bread only, otherwise they would have run into this problem (or perhaps they don't use this toaster).
I wanted to return it because of this, but I already threw away the box (I guess this proves I am a moron), so I am stuck with it.

Delonghi DO-1289 Convection Counter-top Oven Review

Delonghi DO-1289 Convection Counter-top OvenI have had the DO1289 for a month and overall I am very happy with it. The toaster is gorgeous and does a great job baking. I have cooked fish and steaks and everything has turned out perfectly. The convection fan is not too loud and does its job well. In terms of toasting, the oven is not spectacular, but certainly adequate. Getting a crispy slice of toast takes about 5 minutes. Though it takes a few clicks to do anything on the toaster, the controls and knobs are straightforward and well designed.

I spent a long time analyzing and breaking down the pros and cons of the different top quality toasters so hopefully this review can save you some time. Here are the other toasters I looked at seriously :

Cuisinart TOB-195: Generally well-reviewed, but I could not get past the fact that the toaster does not have automatic shut-off. This is a key safety feature that I was unwilling to sacrifice. The DO1289 does have auto shut-off and turns off after beeping loudly 3 times. In addtion, the Cuisinart's crumb tray comes out the back, which seems totally stupid and impractical.

Krups FBC2: Looked like the perfect toaster, but again a safety feature got in the way. Apparently the Krups model has a poorly constructed door hinge and is prone to exploding. The DO1289's door is very smooth opening and seems well constructed. The Krups' quartz heating would have been nice, but still not worth it. I also suspect that the Delonghi has a little more overhead clearance than the Krups so I can roast a small chicken.

Breville Smart Oven: If it wasn't so expensive, i might have gone with this since it has every feature and is the most powerful and spacious, but $250 for a toaster is just absurd. I bought my Delonghi refurbished for $70, so it was no contest.

The Delonghi also has an oven light (which most others do not) and a permanently illuminated display-- a great feature at night for seeing the time. One other feature that doesn't get much attention but was very important to me is the Delonghi's enamel interior. This is great because, unlike toasters with nonstick interiors, I can put metal and glass dishes in the oven, as well as aluminum foil (every one of the other aforementioned ovens has a nonstick interior). Plus, I don't trust the chemicals in nonstick and I prefer not to use any nonstick products when I cook.

Based on my comparisons with other toaster ovens, I found that the Delonghi 1289 is the best designed and most practical. The Delonghi's performance is very good, though not spectacular, it has great features and, in my opinion, is the best choice for a high-end toaster oven.

UPDATE: After nearly a year owning the Delonghi DO-1289, I am still very happy with it and everything continues to work exactly as it should.

Oster 2-Slice Toaster Oven with Extra Wide Slots Review

Oster 2-Slice Toaster Oven with Extra Wide SlotsI loved the style, functions and even toasting of this model!Too bad the slice rest are a little flimsy; made of cheap metal. After three days, one bent, using the high-lift feature.Which caused it to get stuck down and not raise anymore; If Oster would use a different type or grade metal; it would be A Great Toaster!Needless to say I had to return it to Wal-Mart yesterday, and I searched for a different make with sturdier rest.Respectfully Submitted, John W. Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice Toaster Review

Proctor Silex 22605 2-Slice ToasterIN A NUTSHELL: WE HAVE USED THE MODEL #22205 DAILY SINCE 1997

The model 22205 is almost an exact twin of the model offered here, except it was offered for sale to us in 1997. We have 5 children and this brave little toaster has seen alot of service since 1997 without a single problem.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT: 900 WATTS - WHITE ENAMEL FINISH - CRUMB TRAY

We have used and overused this little appliance and while 5 coffee makers and 3 'Foreman Grills' have worn out this toaster keeps toasting just like it always has.

CAUTION: HOT TO THE TOUCH

Like toasters of old, this one is hot to the touch with only thin metal and white baked enamel between your fingers and the red hot nichrome filaments that are powered by 900 watts of electricity. Actually, it was the 900 watts versus 7-800 watts of other toasters that got me to buy this in the first place. It even has a crumb bin! Well, 9.5 years and counting, but soon we may want to replace it for a 'cool-touch', though I think we will always keep this brave little toaster around for sentimental reasons.

Proctor Silex 24605 4-Slice Toaster Review

Proctor Silex 24605 4-Slice ToasterBased on a Consumer's Report review, last year I purchased an inexpensive Proctor-Silex 4 slice toaster, which was as reviewed--wonderful. I needed another such toaster and purchased the one for which these comments are directed--it appears to have replaced the earlier base model. But this one is hardly as good as its predecessor.

The sliding crumb trays have vanished as has the light that one can push to raise the toast before it automatically pops up. And it is not that easy to push the lever down again if the toast needs additional browning. It appears that the toaster needs to cool down a bit before the lever will stay down. And...it takes longer to brown the bread.

It is terrible.

Black & Decker 6-Slice Countertop Toast-R-Ovens Review

Black & Decker 6-Slice Countertop Toast-R-OvensI've owned this B&D for about 5 months now and I'm extremely pleased.A big issue for most of the other reviewers seems to revolve around the toaster timer and that may well be.Maybe they are used to using the same type of bread every day and figuring out the right setting of a toaster and then never having to change it, but I don't toast that often and whenever I have I always watch it to see when it gets to the right color then I turn it off.The good news related to toasting - it evenly colors both sides, so my toast is better than ever!
But more often I use it for heating little frozen pizza's and other frozen foods which do much better in an oven than in a microwave, and this does GREAT at that, better than my GE Profile gas oven. I find that things are done in the exact time specified in the instructions, and with my GE oven I have to set it hotter than the instructions, and run it 5 - 10 minutes longer than the directions call for.And its hot and ready to cook in a minute or two vs. 5 or more for the GE.
I haven't had any problem with the door, seems to work fine to me, and I'm aware of heat issues with toasters so I keep a little space around it which I think would be a good rule for any one purchased.

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven Review

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster OvenI wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far).I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews:

Review #1:This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective.

(1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible.
(2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away).
(3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome.

I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow.

Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven.

Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one.I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself.

It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time.It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs.I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly.I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking!Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try.Just buy two ;)

Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker TRO480BS Toast-R-Oven 4-Slice Toaster OvenWe looked at a number of ovens and wanted something that did the basic things and didn't take up too much space. No convection (we have a convection oven) and no digital - its just a basic appliance. We looked at the B&D 240 but this just seemed too basic and too flimsy. Then we saw this one. It has all the basics, it's a good, small size and its silver / black which matches our kitchen. It has 3 controls (as compared to the basic model w/ 2) making it easy to select temp, function and time. The handle is securely attached to the glass door -the metal ends wrap around the glass so it won't fall off (a complaint about other ovens). It has a nice slide out crumb tray that has access from the front with the oven door close - this makes it very easy to empty.Nicely toasted our first bagel in just a few minutes and it was very evenly browned, something our regular toaster did not do well at all.

Pros
Gets hot fast
Basic controls work well
Easy access crumb tray
Even toasting and heating

Cons
Not many
The top and sides do get hot so don't store anything on this!
