Euro-Pro TO283 Convection Toaster Oven,Stainless Steel Review

Euro-Pro TO283 Convection Toaster Oven,Stainless SteelReplacing an old weathered Delonghi, and sticking to a lower budget, was challenging. Pulled it off with this purchase of a Euro-Pro. Purchased at Target for $54.00 at about half of a comparable "higher end" machine. This more than does the job and at this price and free shipping, I would not hesitate.

Convection 6 Slice/Broiler Toaster Oven Review

Convection 6 Slice/Broiler Toaster OvenFor some reason, the nameplate HAMILTON BEACH never clicked with me as an appliance super star, or even star. I stand corrected. I took a flier and bought this thinking it would probably go back. I'd done the same with other more expensive and disappointing toaster ovens so hope was not high.
This oven has been a happy surprise. My acid test is this; one toasted piece of bread. How even is the brown. If it goes well here, all else will follow. I'm very happily surprised by the result and hope for a long life from this little box. The overall build quality is good. My only reservation would be - how long will the twisting timer last. It could become an issue, but I think that would happen far down the road. A toast to H.B.

Euro-Pro Convection Toaster Oven - Stainless Steel (TO289) Review

Euro-Pro Convection Toaster Oven - Stainless Steel (TO289)I wanted a small convection toaster oven that does not take up much counter space and so that I would not have to heat up the house with my big oven. I also needed to get foods crisp which a microwave just can not do. I did not buy it for toast. I have a very good toaster for that.

This Euro Pro was my choice because it had the features I wanted such as a fan, variable temperature control, and a timer with auto shutoff. As with my regular big oven I have found that convection baking cooks faster and more evenly. That is why a fan was a must.

This little oven does exactly what I want it to do. I have tried frozen waffles, pizza and various other frozen snack foods. Everything came out golden brown and crisp. I found the fan to be fairly quiet, but the ticking on the timer is a little annoying. However, when I do not need the timer and auto shutoff, then I simply turn it to Stay-On. Except for the handle, the oven does get very hot. But that seems to be the case with most ovens.

I have never owned this brand before, so only time will tell how long it will last. Of course, with such a small price I do not mind replacing it every few years for an updated model.

The bottom line is to buy what meets your need. Do you need a larger toaster oven and have the counter space? Do you want to be able to heat or cook larger amounts of food? If that is what you want it for, then keep in mind that you have your big oven for those things. This little oven will do the job for most things and was a good choice for me.

Delonghi DO-1289 Convection Counter-top Oven Review

Delonghi DO-1289 Convection Counter-top OvenI have had the DO1289 for a month and overall I am very happy with it. The toaster is gorgeous and does a great job baking. I have cooked fish and steaks and everything has turned out perfectly. The convection fan is not too loud and does its job well. In terms of toasting, the oven is not spectacular, but certainly adequate. Getting a crispy slice of toast takes about 5 minutes. Though it takes a few clicks to do anything on the toaster, the controls and knobs are straightforward and well designed.

I spent a long time analyzing and breaking down the pros and cons of the different top quality toasters so hopefully this review can save you some time. Here are the other toasters I looked at seriously :

Cuisinart TOB-195: Generally well-reviewed, but I could not get past the fact that the toaster does not have automatic shut-off. This is a key safety feature that I was unwilling to sacrifice. The DO1289 does have auto shut-off and turns off after beeping loudly 3 times. In addtion, the Cuisinart's crumb tray comes out the back, which seems totally stupid and impractical.

Krups FBC2: Looked like the perfect toaster, but again a safety feature got in the way. Apparently the Krups model has a poorly constructed door hinge and is prone to exploding. The DO1289's door is very smooth opening and seems well constructed. The Krups' quartz heating would have been nice, but still not worth it. I also suspect that the Delonghi has a little more overhead clearance than the Krups so I can roast a small chicken.

Breville Smart Oven: If it wasn't so expensive, i might have gone with this since it has every feature and is the most powerful and spacious, but $250 for a toaster is just absurd. I bought my Delonghi refurbished for $70, so it was no contest.

The Delonghi also has an oven light (which most others do not) and a permanently illuminated display-- a great feature at night for seeing the time. One other feature that doesn't get much attention but was very important to me is the Delonghi's enamel interior. This is great because, unlike toasters with nonstick interiors, I can put metal and glass dishes in the oven, as well as aluminum foil (every one of the other aforementioned ovens has a nonstick interior). Plus, I don't trust the chemicals in nonstick and I prefer not to use any nonstick products when I cook.

Based on my comparisons with other toaster ovens, I found that the Delonghi 1289 is the best designed and most practical. The Delonghi's performance is very good, though not spectacular, it has great features and, in my opinion, is the best choice for a high-end toaster oven.

UPDATE: After nearly a year owning the Delonghi DO-1289, I am still very happy with it and everything continues to work exactly as it should.

Black & Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel Review

Black & Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless SteelIt's hard to really know what you're getting when you buy a toaster oven on-line, sight unseen. This is an appliance that gets used frequently, so it is a good idea to see it first-hand.I chose to buy this at a local appliance store that sells it cheaper than here. But unfortunately, I had to return it--TWICE.

I looked around at a number of convection toasters, and this one seemed to fit the bill--decent quality, attractive design, good crumb guards over the heating elements, nice size for cooking a variety of things, and the Black & Decker name.My previous Black & Decker toaster oven lasted me over 10 years, so I was partial to the brand.WAS.

My first test was to check out the convection feature.I clicked the convection switch--nothing happened.On-off-on-off-on... off.Nothing. I tried it again with the oven on/off and the toaster on/off.Still nothing. It was completely dead.I called up Black & Decker and told them about it, hoping there might be some trick to it.Nope--my unit was defective.I decided to try it anyway.

I put in a London broil and turned on the oven.It heated up reasonably fast and did a superb job.I never thought you could cook a steak so nicely in one of these toaster ovens (less time and less energy than a full oven).I was a little dismayed at how much heat is transferred to the outside (it's easy to burn yourself on that stainless steel), but I was willing to overlook that.

The next day, I brought it back to the store to get a replacement--I figured I had just hit a little bad luck.I had the clerk open the box and plug it in first, so I could see if the convection fan was working (just in case the whole shipment the store got was defective). It did.I was happy and walked off with my new unit.

The next day I decided to make some toast.I looked at the dials and realized I needed to read the instructions. The design is a little quirky, in that the oven temperature control doubles as a control to choose whether the oven or toaster features will be used. There's also a dial labeled "timer", but it's only used for the oven. Most toaster ovens I've seen in the past have one control to set the intensity (light, medium, dark) and another to turn it on.This uses one dial that turns on the toaster as you rotate it to the desired toasting intensity, and it should countdown (like the oven timer) until it reaches "off".

I turned the dial to 'medium', as suggested by the instructions, put in the toast, and walked away to do something else for a few minutes. When I came back in the room, the toast was burnt to a crisp and the dial was still on 'medium'--it didn't move at all.I turned it off... then turned it on.Yep, there's no ticking sound, as heard from the timer for the oven function.I played with the dial a little more and could coax it to tick for a second or two, but then it would stop.DEFECTIVE AGAIN.

Well, that's it.Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me (yep, that's the cliche Bush couldn't get right).I brought it back to the store and gave up.I decided my time was not worth toying with a $60 appliance.I'm going to spend more this time and get something that WORKS reliably, has good heat insulation, and logical controls.

So, here's what I didn't like about this unit:
1) Encountering TWO defects, one in each unit I tried. This is shameful, Black & Decker.
2) The controls don't feel like good quality.I also don't like the ticking sound (when it works). It's disturbing if you're trying to read the newspaper next to this thing.
3) The stainless steel exterior gets extremely hot.You can easily burn yourself on it, as well as anything nearby. My old cheap Black & Decker toaster oven got hot, but not this bad--and it cooled off fast, while this TRO700S model remains hot for a long while. This is just downright dangerous.
4) The door doesn't have any rubber cushioning--it is metal slamming up against metal. If I was going to keep this, I would apply some heat resistant rubber pieces to buffer the sound.

What I did like about it:
1) It cooks well and even.
2) It has decent crumb guards over the elements.
3) It's a nice size for what it can cook.
4) It is a good looking unit.

Unfortunately, my likes couldn't outweigh my dislikes. And the quality problems are just ridiculous. These are BASIC functions that should pass quality assurance tests, simple problems like an ON/OFF switch not working or a timer dial not turning should never leave the factory.

I contacted Black & Decker and complained about my experience. They recommended I buy another and that it "probably won't have any problems".I'm sorry to say that it will take a long while before I consider a Black & Decker ever again.

Waring Pro TCO600 1500-Watt 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven Review

Waring Pro TCO600 1500-Watt 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oventhis is our first convection oven, we've searched around for a while for a convection oven that was in this price rangebut every other oven we read about on here, Target, and Sears had electrical and fire problems with them. Since I didn't see the first review on this oven before I bought mine I probably wouldn't have bought it, but since owning this model for half a month its pretty good for the price. This oven cooks better than our old gas oven. After each use I make sure I unplug and that goes with any device that generates heat, I mean would you leave an electric heater running when your not using it, no you unplug it. On the first few days of owning this model we baked pizza's in it up to 400 degrees for 30min front to back and we didn't run across any problems. So far so good. I recommend this model if you read the instructions before using it.

Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, White Review

Cuisinart TOB-165 Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler, WhiteI have a toaster oven graveyard out in my dumpster. I was buying name brands and subjecting them to only moderate use, yet we were going through the things faster than pet goldfish.
For my most recent purchase I decided to pay for top quality. I based my purchase decision on my experience with other Cuisinart products and extensive reading of reviews from many sources. I've had my oven for about six months now, and I've been heartily pleased with my selection.
Besides durability, my chief concern in shopping had been size. It turns out this is even bigger than what I had before--both wide and tall. I can fit Corningware pans with the domed lids and knobs on top. Yet the outer dimensions are quite modest.
I wasn't sure I would use the convection feature, and in fact didn't get around to it until last week. It produced an excellent roast chicken, and I probably will use it more and more to make "weekend" dishes during the week. The additional cost for the convection over the regular was small, so it's definitely worth it even for occasional use.
The oven itself functions admirably. I love that it beeps when it's fully preheated, and the heat sensor really does keep it constantly and evenly heated to the correct temperature. I'm using this much more than my regular oven, especially during the summer.
The controls are easy to use and well thought-out as far as flow and intuitive functions. The only thing I'm not crazy about is setting the timer--one press for every minute, one for every hour. Gets to be a pain when you're setting 45 minutes. But, that is balanced out by the fact that the timer alarm keeps beeping until you come turn it off. No one little "ding" that you miss because you've stepping into the other room for a minute, leaving your food to burn.
Toasting is uneven as noted elsewhere, but this is typical of toaster ovens. Adjusting the rack can help. And honestly, it's really only an aesthetic problem. I do like that the toasting fuction includes a countdown timer so you know how long until breakfast!
My only real complaint lies with the broiler pan. Upon first inspection out of the box I was pleased with its apparent quality. But on the very first use it warped, and now buckles significantly on every use. Further, after the first washing I took it out of the drying rack only to discover rust along the bottom edge where water had pooled. I didn't even think it could rust, let alone do it on its first contact with water. I have to think my specific pan is lemon, as for them all to be like this would just be inexcusable in a product of such otherwise impeccable quality.
Also, the design team really fell apart when it came to the oven rack on which this pan sits. The rack--at least in one of its positions--actually wraps around the front corners of the pan. This means in order to take the pan out of the oven you have to lift it 1/2" vertically over the rack. Lift it and whatever's on it, plus whatever hot grease has accumulated, with nothing to grab it by. The other option is to take the rack out with it, which means tilting everything 30 degrees to get it past the stops. Not only is this bad design, it's dangerous.
But since I'm not using the pan every day, and since I love everything else about it, I'll still give it five stars.

Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven Broiler Review

Cuisinart TOB-60 Convection Toaster Oven BroilerI followed the instructions for toast-set the rack to the B position, turned the temp to 500 degrees, set on bake/toast,turned the timer dial past 20 minute than back to the toast shade I desired, I selected the lightest shade possible. I was a little nervous after reading the burned toast comments so I stood by and watched. The toast was perfect, exactly as it would have been in a toaster.

Next I tried a 12" frozen pizza, followed the instructions-set to 425 degrees, set the rack to the A position, set the timer. The only thing I did differently was I placed a sheet of alumium foil under the bottom heating elements on top of the crumb tray because I put the pizza directly on top on the rack (instructions do not indicate to do this).I added extra cheese and spices, set the timer for 10 minutes. The top of the pizza was done perfectly. The crust was slightly burned on the bottom, next time I'll set the timer for 9 minutes and lower the temp(9 minutes for a frozen pizza! wow, even my pizzaz pizza cooker takes 25 minutes).

Yes, the dial is hard to turn at first, it does loosen up, so far this is my only complaint. I can't wait to roast chicken or a full meal using the convection feature. So far so good, very happy with this product.I got it for $104.00, so I'm even happier with the price.

Oster 6058 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven Review

Oster 6058 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster OvenI'm giving this convection/toaster 5 stars based on it's performance at it's price range and class. You can spend 3-4 times as much on a professional countertop convection oven like the Franklin convection oven (Amazon ASIN: B000BQ0CP6) for $250 and get a better product. However, I've used both and by comparison I think you really get your money's worth with this product.

We've had ours for about a month now and use it daily. The results are amazing.I've made numerous frozen pizzas, a meatloaf, cookies, brownies, loads of toast and lots of french fries among other things. The oven performed quite well in all cases. There is definitely a little bit of a learning curve and I goofed up a few things before I figured out how to use it. I would definitely recommmend reading the directions and following many of the recommendations for rack and food placement. That is actually very important.

Some examples of "tweaks" are as follows: With brownies you need a lower temperature than the box states when using convection and you might want to use a combination of convection and regular baking for cakes and browines.

With chocolate chip cookies you want to go with straight convection heat and depending on the mix you use you'll need to tweak the cycle. Cookiesbake in much less time but you can get abolutely perfect and uniformly colored cookies! No more burnt bottoms! For example Ghiardelli dry cookie mix from the box cooks a little differently than the frozen dough that comes in a chub, even though the baking instructions on the packages are about the same.As you might expect you can only make about 6 average cookies, or biscuits at a time.

The convection bake is excellent for making all kinds of frozen french fries that come out perfect every time. Spring rolls come out great. The oven has several pre-programed cycles, a light, a timer, and every cycle offers the opportunity to tweak the temperature and/or time. There is a nice light inside the unit that makes it easy to check food.

Other notes: When making toast be sure to follow the directions for setting the rack.

Major Plusses:

1. Holds a very consistent temperature
2. Does a very good job on many types of food - better than a conventional oven
3. Produces very uniformly cooked foods
4. Cooks many foods in less time
5. Bottom tray is easy to remove and clean
6. Easy to use

A few drawbacks:

1. It does not quite fit most 9 x 13 pans, but will cook 12 inch pizzas.
2. It does get hot and you need to be careful how you open it and where you put your hands.
3. It only comes with one shelf. I would like two shelves for making cookies.
4. There is a bit ofa "learning curve" if you're not used to convection
5. The oven operated at a slightly higher temperature than what my oven thermometer reads, but it holds at one, even temperature very well and it was consistently about the same difference at all ranges from 300 to 450. I'm honestly not sure which temperature was more correct, the oven's or my thermometer's. Based on my baking, the oven may be running a tad hotter than it says but it's easy to adjust. I would recommend checking your oven, as they may differ.

Krups FBC2 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven, Black Review

Krups FBC2 6-Slice Digital Convection Toaster Oven, BlackI finally had to replace a Delonghi that I used for 13 years. That is a pretty good run for a small appliance these days. Plus, I used it a lot. So I naturally set out to get another DeLonghi to replace it (presumably for another 13 years).

What I discovered was that toaster ovens have become much more advanced and perhaps more complex as well. I usually embrace technology in all other aspects of my life but I really liked the simplicity of 3 knobs to turn. Idiot proof. I didn't relish the idea of having to punch a bunch of buttons to reheat a casserole or even make toast.

However I did a little research and decided to get a convection type oven. I narrowed it down to 2 or 3 and chose this one based on some key factors:

1. The crumb tray must be removed from the FRONT. Rear removal is a deal breaker.

2. The LCD should light up. This one does, but many don't.

3. The oven should shut itself off after cooking time is done, just like a microwave. I multi-task in the kitchen so setting separate egg timers for separate dishes gets to be a nuisance. Plus it is safer.

Okay, one real choice -- the Krups.

Now the bonuses:

1. Fast foods like fries, fish sticks, chicken tenders come out evenly cooked and very crisp.

2. There is no interior light (I didn't need one) but the heating elements are so bright that you can pretty much see everything when one is activated.

3. The controls are very easy to use. A quick read of the manual and I owned the controls.

4. Food is invariably cooked in less time with better results. This may be seen as a negative initially because you need to guesstimate cooking times. I find that with foods/recipies that provide a range (i.e., 15-18 mins.), just go with the lower value and it comes out pretty near perfect.

5. The price is very competitive and well-worth it in my opinion. I even paid more for mine at the time of purchase (price has gone down since).

In conclusion, I am very pleased. But I guess that is clear by now.

P.S. The instructions say to run the oven empty for 15 mins before using it. Do this. Mine emitted a smell when first running empty (residue from manufacturing I suppose). As a precaution, I did it a second time and no smell.

Product Description:
Krups high-speed quartz heating system takes masterful control of heat in the chamber. Each set of quartz heating element, both top and bottom, is alternately powered at the full 1600 watts to maximize the effect of radiant heat. The heat distribution is aided by a special reflective crumb tray that directs this important form of heat to all corners for excellent results. Convection heat, important for longer baking times, circulates heated air around the food for the best result in the fastest time. The defrost function uses the convection fan only and gently and evenly defrosts food without producing hot spots. This 6-slice toaster oven has temperature controls in 25 degree increments from 150-450 degrees, a digital timer from 1 minute to 90 minutes and an auto shut off after elapsed time. For toasting, it has 9 levels or browning with a countdown timer. Illuminated LCD control panel with easy to use controls and high quality soft touch buttons, it has a digital clock that displays when the cooking functions are not in use.The non-stick interior surface is durable and easy to clean. This unit includes a non-stick bake pan, broiling tray and thermal resistant tongs for safe removal of hot pans or food and comes with a 1-year warranty.

Black & Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless Steel Review

Black & Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless SteelWe bought this toaster about two months ago, after much research. Our old one was a simple, cheap one from Sunbeam, which lasted about ten years until the lever for toast broke.
I never really wanted a "convection" toaster, but I decided to give it a try because I thought it might save energy when baking. It actually does a very fast job at that, much more efficient than the regular oven we used before.
I used the broiler just once so far and it works well.
Toast is very good: crunchy on the outside, moist inside (but that depends on taste). One gripe is with the knobs, which are hard to grab. The design of the knob is especially annoying in the timer, because it just sort of slides to the desired time, there's no way of precisely selecting the position, like a good stereo knob would. We haven't quite found the best spot on the timer for the perfect toast, I'm having to rely on visual clues and often just take the toast out before the timer rings.
The tray is easy to clean and slides out conveniently.
The hooks on the door hinges that make the rack slide out make it difficult to close the door completely - we decided to fold ours in and not use them, so the door closes correctly.
Be diligent when shopping for this item, prices vary widely from place to place and you may overpay.

Cuisinart TOB-195 Exact Heat Toaster Oven Broiler, Stainless Review

Cuisinart TOB-195 Exact Heat Toaster Oven Broiler, StainlessThe Cuisinart TOB-195 costs a little more than most toaster ovens but it is such a joy to use. Some of the things I like about it:

1. Size. You can fit a 12" pizza in it.
2. Controls below the door. It saves a lot of countertop space.
3. Alarm to let you know when the oven is at the right temperature.
4. Digital temperature setting so you don't have to guess at it.
5. Convection oven feature.
6. Non-stick walls for easy clean-up.

The Cuisinart takes only a few minutes to warm up to the proper temperature, unlike a regular oven which can take several minutes. Pizzas crisp up nicely and my favorite banana bread recipe baked perfectly. I expect to use my Cuisinart more often than my regular oven, except for times when company is over.

I relied on reviews of the previous model, the TOB-175, before purchasing the TOB-195 and must say that Cuisinart has continued their great tradition of creating wonderful kitchen electrics.
