George Foreman™ 8-in-1 Toaster Oven/Broiler Review

George Foreman™ 8-in-1 Toaster Oven/BroilerIn the summer wanted to cook downstairs where it is cooler. The only problem with that plan was the fact that there is no oven or stove downstairs in the guest-quarters.

I moved the BBQ downstairs, bought a microwave, a single-unit electric hot-plate, but still I needed to bake things especially in the winter when BBQ'ing isn't much fun.

I found this George Foreman's Toaster Oven at Amazon.I paid less than $90 for it.

IT IS WONDERFUL!It is so wonderful that I bought one for the formal kitchen upstairs, too!We hardly ever use the built-in oven anymore. The house stays cool because this little oven just doesn't throw off the excess heat as the built-in does.

A9" x 9" baking dish fits perfectly. The Pyrex Bakeware 2-1/2-Quart Oval Roaster (8.5" x 10")and the 2-quart Pyrex covered casserole bowl fits, too!

One more thing: its broiler sure makes lovely cinnamon toast on those cold snowy winter nights.Coupled with a mug of hot chocolate... awww yes.

I have had these little ovens for TWO YEARS!They're great!I highly recommend this little George Foreman Toaster Oven!

Chefmate 4-slice Toaster Oven Review

Chefmate 4-slice Toaster OvenPROS:
Easy to use
Small and compact

CONS:
Rack design makes it difficult to remove bread without the boiling hot rack sliding out with it
Toasts very unpredictably - normally burns 1/2 of the top piece of toast, while leaving the bottom one untouched

Shell out an extra $10 and get a decent toaster oven.

Avanti Countertop Mini-Kitchen Oven - White Review

Avanti Countertop Mini-Kitchen Oven - WhiteI bought one of these as I moved into my small apartment. The moment I took it out of the box I had a bad feeling about it. It felt badly constructed and not very sturdy. The oven door wouldn't really shut tightly and the heat was seeking out. There was no temperaure control for the hot plates and after two month of occasional use it just died on me. I wouldn't recommend this product to anybody. Avanti should be ashamed of itself to put such a poorly constructed product on the market.

Elite Professional Toaster Oven Broiler - ERO-2006S Review

Elite Professional Toaster Oven Broiler - ERO-2006SI thought this toaster-oven was too good to be true. Look at all the features! Well you can't use the top for steaming or cooking without the interior oven being on, which seems very counter-productive. Wanted a rotisserie, but this took forever to cook. The timer shuts off the oven with 10 minutes left to go!
Tried Ellios pizza slices... came out not crisp, not even hot after twice the time listed for baking in toaster-oven. You have to turn one dial to do this... Another dial to enable the first dial.
Perhaps someone else can find this a miracle toaster-oven but that won't be me. I am sorely disappointed. If it sounds too good to be true, it most probably is.

Black & Decker TRO4075B Toast-R-Oven 1500-Watt 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker TRO4075B Toast-R-Oven 1500-Watt 4-Slice Toaster OvenWhat I love about this oven:
convection bake
large capacity
temperature control (non-digital for fewer things to break)
2 rack positions
front pull out crumb tray

What I don't like:
It doesn't make me coffee or do my laundry

I've had this oven for two months.I thought convection baking would be a gimmick but it's not, that little fan works amazingly well.Freezer burritos look like mama made them from scratch.I use this oven more than I use any other appliance in my house, and it performs well.Heats quickly, maintains good temperature, quick toasting.

Black and Decker always satisfies!

Avanti Extra-Large Toaster Oven Review

Avanti Extra-Large Toaster Ovenwe bought it because we liked the styling (it looks very european) (whatever that truly means) - it looks industrial and not cutesy. we liked this.avanti isn't a big known brand.we knew that.it was on sale for $100 which was a fab deal.works great.but one big problem - it does not heat above 350 degrees.we suspected this and bought a good gauge which says it gets up to 350 but no more.actually i would say not even 350but closer to 340 ... that's it.we're going to keep it though.oh well.i subscribe to the belief that in this world, if i seek perfection, i will be disappointed.

Black & Decker FC150 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven, Stainless Review

Black & Decker FC150 InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven, StainlessI also have the FC150R and it looks identical to this. Paid $70 locally.

If you think this will replace your oven or your microwave, you're wrong. It will replace your toaster oven. It does one heck of a job of that, though.

I've found that cooking frozen meat items in this thing sometimes leads to burning the tops. I'm trying to learn the settings better and hopefully will adjust for this in the future. Otherwise I've read covering with aluminum foil will prevent the IR waves from burning the top. It's a new way of cooking, so you have to learn how to work with it.

Anything I've cooked that was defrosted cooked up nicely. Thorough heating, crispy or browned outside.

The advertising will tell you its the next great thing and you don't need an oven anymore. Well, not so much. I still use my regular oven to bake things. I use a Microwave/Convection Oven combo to cook frozen foods, etc... (convection is perfect for those) We bought this to replace our ailing toaster oven. Seems like these days they fall into this price range, anyway. This one had better features than the rest.

This oven heats up immediately and cooks FAST. Once you learn how to work it right, it is wonderful. Be prepared to burn some stuff in the beginning. If you keep in mind it will act like a toaster oven on steroids, you'll be fine.

Product Description:
Unlike conventional or convection ovens, this state-of-the-art countertop oven uses infrared-light technology to evenly cook the inside and outside of foods simultaneously. Superior browning and crisping capabilities seal in flavor, whether cooking meat, poultry, or fish, and toast comes out perfect every time. The appliance cooks up to 50-percent faster than a conventional oven, with no pre-heating or thawing necessary, making it possible to pull dinner out of the freezer and have it fully cooked and ready to serve in no time. In fact, many dishes can be cooked in 20 minutes or less. There's also no need to worry about what temperature to cook at since the intelligent profiling system cycles the cooking lights according to the type of food being cooked. The oven provides a control panel with an LCD screen and 52 digital pre-settings for one-touch ease of use. For example, select from functions including pizza, quick foods, cookies, toast, reheat, bake/roast, or broil, and the digital display allows for scrolling through a variety of detailed choices. Best of all, the units convert menu lets you enter the temperature and time for a favorite recipe, then automatically converts it to InfraWave time. Accessories include a broil rack, bake pan, removable crumb tray, and an instruction manual. Emerson 0.8 cu. ft. Countertop Oven - Stainless Steel Review

Emerson 0.8 cu. ft. Countertop Oven - Stainless SteelI purchased this product and think it is great!. We had a delonghi toasterfor a short while, and it never failed to burn toast , bagels or anything else we put in it. It could never regulate the temperature. Would NEVER buy another Delonghi product. This product toasts evenly and perfect, bakes to perfection and rotisseries a small chicken or game hen evenly. .It has a little handle pull for the racks and trays which make removing a pizza or larger items easy, and a full size bottom crumb rack . The rotisserie attachment is easy to insert or remove. Makes toast in a reasonable amount of time. The best part is: it is self-cleaning. I'm happy with it.

Hamilton Beach 31199R Countertop 1.1-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven with Optional Rotisserie Review

Hamilton Beach 31199R Countertop 1.1-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven with Optional RotisserieBefore buying this particular oven, I read as many product reviews as could be found. They were for a similar Hamilton Beach Oven but not this exact one.And many were quite negative. But it seemed to be just what I wanted. This would be my third countertop oven. The first one lasted over 25 years. The second one, only about 8 years. It arrived earlier than predicted, always a plus.I burned every single thing I put in it for the first week. Not the oven's fault.I'm laughing as I write this.It is so efficient and works so well and I forgot the times on the previous oven were due to it's "dying" process. So, didn't think to compensate for a "new" oven.Well, now I'm doing much better and things are marvelous from this little jewel.Cookies, main dishes, heating up sauces quickly, (I just moved, gave away my microwave and decided not to buy another), sandwiches, even toast from atisan breads are perfectly cooked. So all the burnt foods were obviously "operator error".

At first, I worried what oven ware would fit into it but no worries.I now have a very tall stack of things that will fit comfortably in this oven including several 12-inch glass baking dishes for pizza and cookies. I only had to buy cookie sheets as all the rest (bread pans, muffin tins, springform cake pan, angelfood cake pan, etc) all fit inside very nicely. And best of all, the really large and oversized items can be given away, taking up less storage space in a space-challenged apt.

I would buy this oven again and again. It's the best. Oh, yes, the "bell" rings at the completion of cooking times and I can hear it in the most distant places of this apt. We've had really hot weather this summer and I've so appreciated only having to heat the kitchen for very few minutes to cook meals then a very quick cool down afterwards.I've not even turned on the large stove/oven that is built in to this apt.And I don't plan to, either. This oven is all I need.Oh, yes, I've been using it since the end of July 2007 - slightly under a month and with daily usage.

Product Description:
For everything from cooking a 5-pound chicken to baking two 12-inch pizzas or a birthday cake, this extra-large 1.1-cubic-foot countertop oven makes it possible to cook whole meals without turning on the full-size oven. Three simple-to-use control knobs allow for setting the temperature; for choosing the function--broil, convection, bake, or rotisserie; and for turning the unit off or selecting the cook time or "continuous on". Its convection method continuously circulates heated air around food, resulting in even heating and 33-percent faster cooking times than a traditional oven. Or use the revolving rotisserie rack to cook meat to moist, tender perfection. Other highlights include a power indicator light, a see-through window for checking on food at a glance, a stay-cool handle, and an easy-to-clean design. Accessories include two oven racks, two baking pans, a broil rack, and a slide-out crumb/drip tray, as well as a rotisserie skewer and a rotisserie lifter. Not sure where to start? Hamilton Beach throws in a user manual with recipes for herb-rubbed chicken, baked potatoes, meat loaf, pumpkin cookies, muffins, and much more. Dishwasher-safe parts make cleanup a snap, and the stainless-steel front-panel design looks great in any kitchen. The countertop oven measures approximately 12-1/2 by 17-1/2 by 13-2/3 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Euro-Pro TO251 Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Pizza Pan Review

Euro-Pro TO251 Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven with Pizza Pan[Update July 10, 2010:Rating downgraded to 3 stars and sinking:broken under warranty.Using their customer service webpage kicks back an email saying to email them, and then emailing them got an email couple of days later to call their 800 number.Haven't had a moment to call them yet but will report back.

As much as I like this thing, the controls have quit functioning, after only 7 months of use (initially stuck on high Grill, then wouldn't turn on). And, for those of us who do not live close to Toronto, warranty service is next to useless, because it costs $37.50 for me to mail it from my location internationally to Toronto, plus $9.95 that they request for return shipping and handling, plus the uncertainty that they will actually repair/replace the thing "if it is found ... to be defective in material or workmanship".I contacted customer service for a better solution (e.g. send me some replacement knob modules), but I don't know if that is possible or feasible --stay tuned for updates. For the moment I am lowering my rating of this toaster to 3 stars because this is too soon to break, but I really like using it and want to give their customer service a chance, though they haven't yet bothered to respond to me (On June 26 I used their website contact page, and on June 30 I sent them email; and I have been checking my spam folder).I hope we can work out a more reasonable way to repair it.For the moment I've moved my old kenmore back into the kitchen -- it has lasted several years and counting, and was replaced only for cosmetic reasons.]

Original review (4 stars):
I bought this from Sears to replace my dirty ugly (but functional) old Kenmore toaster oven.I am pretty happy with it, but there are a few things about it that are not perfect.

I think this toaster oven is the same as many others out there. If you are shopping for toaster ovens, you will see that there are lots of different models and brands offering pretty much the same configuration of controls and features as this one. I suspect that they are all made in the same factory and just have different body styles and name brands slapped on to them.

Anyway, here are some of the features that I like about it:
- It has a "Stay On" setting, so if I am baking something that will take more than 60 minutes I don't have to keep turning up the timer to keep the oven on.
- It offers different cooking combinations of top heat, bottom heat, both, convection on and off.
- It has a bulge in the back ("pizza bump") so that I can put a 12 inch diameter pizza pan in it (one was in the box, but I prefer a pizza screen). Not counting the bulge, the interior is about 9" x 12".It is 4.75 inches from the rack in lowest position to the top heating elements.
- It came with a second rack so I can heat things on two racks at the same time if I want to.
- The stainless steel body means that I can scrub the body without having to worry about removing color (and it looks good)

A few flaws that made me contemplate returning it:
- The outside gets hotter than my older (Kenmore) toaster oven.I put a grill thermometer on the top, when baking at full temp, the top surface reaches 220, about 20 degrees warmer than my old Kenmore.I looked and there appears to be an air gap between the roof of the oven and the outside top surface, but I could not tell if there is any insulation in there. But that means it gets the kitchen hotter, and it provides a hotter warming shelf (plates now get too hot if left too long).[I have moved my ugly old toaster oven out to my patio, and if it is too hot to bake inside, I will bake out there instead.]
- The temperature dial goes down to 150 degrees, but when I have tested it with various cooking modes, the actual oven temperature didn't go lower than 200 in one cooking mode, and 180 in another one.I had been hoping to use this for things like slow roasting and food drying, but that is too hot.
- At the corners of the glass door, there are little cushions that probably protect the glass door from shock, but they also prevent the glass door from closing the whole way, so there is a gap of about 2.5mm to let the heat out (using more electricity and making the kitchen hotter).I haven't decided if this is a feature (perhaps it was felt that some air flow was needed) or a bug.
- If you pull the rack out more than one inch, the back is no longer supported so the back of the rack falls down, and what you are baking slides down to the back. This is a real design flaw, but I have just gotten used to the annoyance and hardly pull the rack out now.

However, in spite of these flaws, I find that I am really happy with the purchase and have enjoyed using its many functions.

Also, note that the ridiculously huge dimensions given in the Amazon listing (at the time of this writing) are the size of the box, not the toaster oven itself. The toaster oven is 17.75 wide x 10.25 tall x 13.5 deep, not counting little bumpers which stick out of the side and back about a half inch to prevent it being pushed too close to walls.

Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven Review

Black & Decker CTO6301 Digital Advantage Stainless-Steel 6-Slice Convection Toaster OvenAfter my horrible experiences with the Black & Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel, I swore I wouldn't buy another Black & Decker toaster oven. But when I was checking out several toaster ovens at Bed Bath & Beyond, low and behold there was this particular model available.Compared to the other models around, this one had the best combination of features and size for the price. The Krups convection oven felt cheaply made, unwarranted for the price. The other oven I considered, a Kitchen Aid convection oven, was very well made and looked great, except it did not have a convection feature and the elements were poorly exposed.I wanted to check out the Sanyo SK-VF7S Digital Convection Oven, Stainless Steel Finish that has been getting great reviews, but unfortunately this store didn't carry it.So, I decided to take a chance on "fool me thrice, shame on me".At least I could take it back to the local store if it didn't work out.

This Black & Decker oven is much better made than the TRO700S.It's also a bit bigger and has more solid feeling controls. It's also digital, so you don't have an annoying ticking sound while cooking. It also seems more robust than the Sanyo, potentially delivering more value for the money.

The Good:Excellent design, versatile tray system, non-stick inner surface, decent crumb guards over the heating elements, great capacity (it'll even accommodate a 12" pizza), wide viewing area, and even cooking. There are a lot of nice functions, including "bagel"--the bottom heats at half the top temperature, so it doesn't crisp the bottom of the bagel too much (nice). The exterior does get hot, like most toaster ovens, and its even worse with a brushed steel surface; however, the right side (where the convection fan is located) tends not to get scalding hot.The BROIL mode works well, despite not having the convection feature functioning. And although the toasting function takes long to work, it does brown the toast evenly.

The Not-so-good:The digital controls are confusing and take some time to figure out.The directions are OK, not great--but you definitely need to read them. The display does not have a clock, as one usually finds on digital appliances, but this is OK--once you realize it.The unit beeps at you when you select a cooking function, and it's rather loud. The convection feature only works in BAKE mode, not BROIL--I found this strange and disappointing. When you use it, there is no count-down indication of toasting progress (unlike with timed cooking/baking); you just have to trust that it will stop at the right time.Lastly, this product is designed more as an oven than a toaster--a single piece of toast takes about 50% longer to toast than in a conventional toaster. However, the workaround is to move the shelf to the upper position and then just flip the toast once it has browned on one side.Only a minor inconvenience. Also, there is no backlight to the LCD display, so if you're cooking at night in low light it's a little difficult to see the display details.

Overall, I give this unit a thumbs up... for now.I trust that since I didn't find any initial defects, it should operate well going forward. It is not a perfect oven, but then it seems NO company out there is bothering to perfect the convection/toaster oven.Sometimes I think I should go into product design, as I see so many flaws that can be easily avoided.Anyway, you won't go wrong getting this oven.:-)

NOTE:I really recommend seeing a toaster oven in person before buying it.This way you can get a sense of how it looks, feels, and operates. It's that tangible experience you just can't get on-line.Also, you can save more buying it in person (I paid $67 with tax, at BB&B with a 20% off coupon). However, if you aren't able to get to a store that has the appliances you're interested in, then you have to rely on what you see on-line.I hope my review helps you in your decision.
